When a person sees someone who fits their ideals, they may think, â€Å"Oh my God, I’m in love. † Nevertheless, is it real love or just infatuation? There is a great difference love and infatuation, and when trying to determine the difference there are at least three aspects a person should consider: interest, concern, and distance. When trying to interpret the difference between love and infatuation a person has to figure out what makes one interested in a particular person. Infatuation is purely based on external appearance. Say for instance, a young man in his mid-twenties is at a traffic light. A car pulls up next to him. When he glances over, he sees a beautiful African woman who is his type. All of a sudden, the young man cannot help but feel that he is fallen in love, but in reality, he is only in a state of infatuation. On the other hand, love is deeper than that and it is based on the other party’s inner beauty rather than the outer beauty. They care more about that person’s character and personality traits than their physical appearance. To become infatuated with someone take only a second, whereas it takes a while to become in love with someone because love is based on more than just superficial interests. Concern is another way to tell the difference between infatuation and love. Infatuated people are primarily concerned with themselves, and how the other person makes them feel. Infatuations boast selfishness. When infatuated, one simply cares for another person based on what they have to offer to oneself rather than to the relationship as a whole. They have the tendency to say things like â€Å"I feel important when am with him,† or she really makes me feel good. Notice how many times â€Å"I† and â€Å"me† is used? In contrast, when love evolves, two souls are united as one. Love adjusts and grows as life experiences take place. When the going got tough, love flourishes through a deep commitment and sense of understanding. Love is selfless. Another aspect to tell the difference between love and infatuation is distance. Infatuation is short-sighted and short-lived. Distance severe the bonds in a relationship built on infatuation. It is like building a castle on a bad foundation, and when time takes its toll, it will ultimately crumble. For instance, in a relationship between two person and one of them travels, if it is love, they will wait for each other communicating regularly but if is infatuation, there is bound to a change and either of them can find someone else they are attracted to. However, love is eternal. A separation only strengthens it, fuelling its passion to burn brighter. The longing to be together would only deepen the bond, rather than weaken it.
